This and That

I have been under the weather this week. Not accomplishing much of anything. Clothes are piling up....you know the story.

Also.....my camera broke yesterday! How can I blog and put pretty pictures in it?  I called Canon and they said I just need to mail it back to them and they will send me a brand new camera, since it is under 1 year old. Hurray! Great news!

So...I will be back soon with more crafts and thrift shop finds. Now I have time to get more items priced for the thrift booth. I need to learn to make it fun and not like work. Maybe I will skip while I do this. :)

Tales of having a Thrift Booth

This will be a new edition to my blog. I signed a month to month contract on Friday for a cute little booth at a place called "The Curiosity Shoppe", located here in Brandon, Florida. They are just opening up and only have about 1/4 of the booths rented. I have always wanted to do this, so why am I fretting over it now?

Questions to ponder: (I always overthink.)

1. Will this take the joy out of thrifting?
2. Will I be able to get rid of every item I buy, since I want everything I buy? you know the feeling....
3. Will I be able to make my $100 booth rental without losing money?
4. Will I price items correctly to sell? Not just to take up booth space.
5. Will larger items like furniture sell better?

....these are my concerns at the moment. I have boxes in my garge ready for me to start pricing the items. Here are a couple of pictures of my garage at the moment....

I will post some pictures later of my before and after booth. I have lots of ideas stirring....

Wish me luck. Let me know if you also have a booth and any words of wisdom. Thank you.

Things I Make

I was in one creative mood today. Which is a good thing. That is one of the reasons I thrift....to buy fun stuff to refab. So anyways.....I got out my spray paints and went to town.

First Project:  "Easter Tree"

First I went picking up sticks in the backyard. Spray painted them white and let them dry.

I purchased these tags off of eBay. If anyone is interested in purchasing any from the seller, let me know and I can find her store. They are soooo adorable!  Everything was purchased from a thrift store, accept for the tags.

I put some styrofoam....25 cents
in to the yellow pot that I had out back...free
Stuck the sticks in ....free
Added purple paper grass....50 cents
Added a bag of hanging glitter eggs... $1.00,
and lastly... I added the tags above...$4.00, but switched out the string for fibers and ribbon.
Total Cost: ....priceless......no, really  $5.75

This is the finished project.
 It makes me smile.

Second Project: "Paris Tealight Candle Lamp"

I spray painted this bronze tealight holder black.... thrift shop find....$1.00.  (Ignore red paint and cup holder for now.)

Let dry. I then added a tealight candle and this "Paris" light dome which was also a TF (Thrift Find)....$1.00.

Total project cost: $2.00!
Going in daughters black/white and pink bedroom.

Third Project: Cup/Bracelet "Whatever Holder"

See picture above for spray painting this wood cup holder red.....TF $2.00.

Add these vintage decals around the bottom of the cup holder....I have been collecting these decals for a few years. I would say they were .25 cents each.

Finished project.
Total project cost: $2.75.

Forth Project: "Cake Platter/Misc.Platter"

I used one of these egg cups....TF .25 cents and
this plate .....$1.00. (photo from Thrifty Finds from last weeks post.)
Centered the egg cup onto the bottom of the plate with "E600" glue. (The best glue!)
I have seen this project on another blog but I cannot think of the name at this moment....

Total Cost of Project: $1.25!
Going on shelf in china cabinet for now.

There you have it. My "Things I Make" for this week.
Hope you like them. :)

A Photo a Day - Day 8

I cheated. I took this one last night, but liked it so much I wanted to post it today.

This will be my last "A Photo a Day" post on my blog. I am just going to keep them over in my photos.

The $5.00 Thrifting Challenge

Yesterday I decided to take a drive to Lakeland, which is about a 40 minute drive away from home. They always have better deals over there. I decided to try my $5.00 challenge at two thrift shops. Can you believe I accomplished that?

The first stop was at Salvation Army. I found this hanging tassel for $1.99. It still had the original price tag of $19.99 on it.

The second item I found was this Mary Engelbreit Christmas book. I used to LOVE her style. Still do, but not the cutesy stuff so much anymore. This book was .99 cents.

Total for this shop: $2.98. Love that they do not charge tax.

The second stop was a very small shop, but they always have just a few cute finds. Good thing for my challenge.

This shabby chic metal tray with the roses. I love pink roses. This is a pretty big tray.  I also collect these trays. They are in my garage now on a shelf. This was only $3.00.

This moon and stars mosaic stepping stone. I will use it in my garden. It was $1.50.

Lastly, this big tin with handles. It looks like it was from a pretzel company. It has an Amish scene on the back and cute little Amish man and woman on the sides. This was only $1.00. I might drill some holes in the bottom and use it as a planter to use on the back porch.

So total for this shop was $5.50, but wait....20% off everything. That makes it $4.40! Hurray!

I really enjoyed this challenge.

Part 2 of Excellent Finds this past week for Nifty Thrifty Tuesday

There were so many good finds this past week that I had to split them up for blog posts. Not so much a good thing when you limit yourself to how much money you will spend. I have started going over. I think I might try something new next week and see what I can find for ONLY $5.00. Might be fun to try.

My favs in this group were the hatbox (which I collect), the green scarf (which I never wear), the shabby chic cream door holder and the rose paper weight.

Here is a close up of the paper weight. I love the quote inside of it. It summed up how I felt this week after theses purchases. :)

All kinds of little goodies. Strawberry drinking glass, rose decanter for dishwashing soap, vintage silver lid jar from Avon ( I had one of these about 20 years ago),bottle with cobalt blue topper, cheese plate, couple of jars, a glass dome to put a cute little birds nest in, a vintage brayer roller, a perfect size wooden file card box to store my scrapbooking tags and ATC's and a cute white embroidered piano picture. Oh and the recipe cards and little plastic tea bag holder.

This photo has a pretty vintage telephone figure with roses on the side of it, the French clown I showed last post, 2 egg cups, the plate, pens and little fairy figure from last post, an adorable bunny coffee mug and a beautiful Queens rose coffee mug.

A pretty robins egg blue pyrex dish. No lid though. I can still use it to serve in.

My fav is this huge, green tin with fancy detailed painted designs on it.  I can use it to store my mini scrapbooks in. I also found these metal candle holders and shelf that match. I thought I would spray them black to match the colors in my bathroom, which are lime green, turquoise, black and white.

More baby clothes for future grandbabies. A cute "Florida Gators" cap, a pink bonnet,a lion jumper for a little boy, a handmade sweater and a cute little pink tutu. I might try that on my dog.

A bunch of picture frames. You can never have enough. I will post on http://www.kootoyoo.com/ "Creative Space Thursday" when she returns at the end of the month, to show you what I do with these.

An embroidered round tablecloth. If you look closer, it has pretty white doves holding the blue banner tie. Some free flowers for crafting.

My daughter LOVES this pretty mod lady walking her pink poodle wall hanging. Her bedroom is black/white and pink.

All these comfy jammies! I found the pants to match the pink French poodle top the week before at the same thrift store. I LOVE the blue snowglobe ones. I can't wear these for long since I live in Florida. I can just turn the air conditioner down, make some hot cocoa, wear these and pretend it is winter.

Well that is it for this weeks thrifty postings. Hope you have lots of fun on your treasure adventures!

A Photo a Day - 3

I played around with the Picasa photo program today. This is my favorite sitting nook in my living room.

Another Excellent Week of Thrifty Finds

I had the best thrifting week....even better than last week. I am not sure if I am to load photos of EVERYTHING I bought or just a few at a time.?. Still very new to blogging. The majority of the posts that I see are just a few items. Makes me wonder if I am just a complusive buyer.?. But I swear....every thing I purchase talks to me. I did receive a very nice compliment from the clerk at my fav thrift store the other day, when she said that I had a good eye for vintage pieces. That was so nice of her! That is why it is hard to part with any of my finds...I did manage to start 2 boxes in the garage though.

Here are a few of my favorite treasures from my adventures on Tuesday.

I had to add this picture because of the plate, teapot and red pie crow. I think the crows were featured in Country Living mag a few months ago. I drooled over them then and when I saw this one, it was CHA CHING. Thank you Jesus!

These 5 medium and 4 small bowls with the label "Vignaud Limoges". Made in France. I LOVE the colors in the pattern. The pretty floral design also. I looked them up on eBay and they have a beautiful gravy boat to match for $65.00, plus s/h. Ouch. I got all these for $9.00. Now about that gravy boat.....

2 gold writing pens. Not real gold though.:(  They are beauties! $1.00 each for the 3 items.  I also picked up the plate and made something out of it about an hour ago. Will post that next.

This handmade baby quilt for $7.00, the fuzzy Easter critters, $1 each, the crocheted hangers and baby ones were a steal  @ .25 cents each...and those pretty luster seashells. I have never seen any like them before and I live an hour from the Florida beaches.

This just speaks to me. I used to collect french clowns in the late 70's. I love the fur around the waistline. This one has a vintage look to it and it is stamped on the bottom.
This garden fairy figure caught my eye. She is adorable and especially for Spring.
and this necklace...the guy just threw it in for free. It is very classy looking. Imagine with a white tshirt and jeans. Cute!
Help: I need more followers. It would be grately appreciated. I am feeling left out. :(

A Photo a day for a Year - 1

My friend Joni posted this on Facebook yesterday and I have been wanting to do this for a few years. Even though we are into April, I will start TODAY. I am glad I do not have to be in the pictures, as there are days I just stay in my jams. :)

My favorite little fairy for Spring.

I doubt that I will post these on a daily basis....
Maybe just my favorites. Need to learn how to store posts to the side. Or maybe in Flickr.

My Creative Space

Here are some items I have made during the past week. I also just found a really nice blog called http://www.mybackyardeden.com/. She has a blog party going on for you to post in called "Make it Yours Day". They have over a hundred blogs that have linked up with their special projects they have made and are sharing. Go on over and add yours. It is so much fun!

These are two steno books that I bought at the Dollar Store and have decorated with scrapbook paper and embellishments.

This is a canvas that I colored at the SB Expo using new watercolor pencils and crayons. They were fun and I had to buy some.
Hint: A cheap way to get canvas....I buy canvas totebags at one of my fav thrift stores for .25 cents each and then cut them up. You can stamp any image onto them with a permanent black ink pad.

A decorated wooden "B" for Becky and a heart to match. These were decorated with Margie's new line of scrapbook papers. I found these wooden pieces at a thrift store for $1.00 for 4. The other two I will use for something else.

....and a picture of half the items I purchased at the SB Expo that was held in Orlando last Friday.
